MADISON – State Senator Van Wanggaard (R-Racine) expressed shock and disgust today when learning that the Wisconsin state flag has been removed from the Risser Justice Center and State Law Library in Madison and replaced with the Progress Pride flag. The building houses the Department of Justice, the Director of State Courts, the State Law Library, and other state agencies.

“It’s one thing to display the Pride flag along with the Wisconsin flag, as comically unnecessary as it is,” said Wanggaard. This is the Evers’ administration choosing to replace the Wisconsin flag with the Pride flag. How can you claim to represent all of Wisconsin when you choose to take down the Wisconsin flag?”

The removal of the Wisconsin flag and the newly installed Progress Pride flag was noticed on Thursday June 6th. It is unclear when the flags were switched. Earlier this week, the Wisconsin Historical Society came under fire with an orchestrated pressure campaign from Democrats for not displaying the Pride flag.

“How misplaced are the priorities of the Evers’ administration when they prioritize the symbol of the LGBTQ movement over that of Wisconsin?” asked Wanggaard. “The flag may just be a symbol, but it can be a powerful one. In their attempt to virtue signal to the LGTBQ community, the Evers Administration chose to disrespect Wisconsin.”

“Evers didn’t have to do this. He made the decision to change the flag,” said Wanggaard. “The Wisconsin flag represents everyone in Wisconsin of every race, creed, and gender. Period.”

“When Governor Evers tries to dismiss this by saying ‘I don’t think people care about flags. This is just a distraction,’ the press should ask him, ‘If people don’t care about flags, why did you do this?’”
