MADISON – Senator Eric Wimberger (R-Oconto) released the following statement as the Veterans Housing and Recovery Program’s homeless shelters in Green Bay and Chippewa Falls close due to Governor Evers’ refusal to fund the facilities with existing appropriations already at his disposal:

“The Legislature appropriated enough funding to support the Veterans Housing and Recovery Program, and Governor Evers simply refused to spend it.

The closing of veterans’ homeless shelters is his decision alone, and he quite literally is refusing to use available funding in the exact same manner as he did last year to run those facilities.”

The nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau recently completed an analysis showing that the Evers Administration has the funding available to keep the shelters open. The analysis can be found here.
