MADISON – Senator Eric Wimberger (R-Oconto) released the following statement after the Brown County Board negotiated a deal with the C. Reiss Coal Co. to move its coal reserves to the former Pulliam Power Plant site, thereby retaining $15 million in grant funding to redevelop the Port of Green Bay that Senator Wimberger recently urged Department of Administration Secretary-designee Blumenfeld to deliver:

“It’s great to see progress made in critical environmental remediation and infrastructure modernization here in Brown County. This news opens up a significant area along Green Bay’s waterfront to exciting new residential and commercial opportunities that will support our community for years to come.

The negotiated deal means that Brown County will receive $15 million in grant funding from the Department of Administration to redevelop the Port of Green Bay. This once-in-a-generation project will create $87 million in local economic impact over its first five years, and will play a vital role in maintaining Northeast Wisconsin’s position in the global supply chain.

My thanks go out to the local officials and C. Reiss for getting this deal across the finish line. The Port development is regionally transformative, and will deliver real results for the entire State of Wisconsin.”
