Report is Part of a Series of Audits of State Grant Programs
MADISON – Senator Eric Wimberger (R-Oconto) and Representative Robert Wittke (R-Caledonia) released the following statement after the nonpartisan Legislative Audit Bureau issued Report 25-29, the third in a series of audits of state grant programs, analyzing the Emergency Planning and Regional Emergency Response Grant Programs administered by the Department of Military Affairs (DMA):
“It’s not a choice: state agencies need to follow the law, or work with the Legislature to get the law changed.
State agencies administer millions of dollars in grant funding every year. It is critical that they follow the law while distributing state funds. We look forward to working with the Department to use this audit report as a roadmap for accountability to ensure their full compliance with state law.”
The audit found that DMA did not comply with mandatory reviews to ensure its grant funds were properly used. State auditors made 18 recommendations to the Department to improve oversight and compliance.
Report 25-29 is the third report in an ongoing series of audits reviewing grant programs administered by state agencies. The previously-released reports analyzed the Harbor Assistance Program and Local Roads Improvement Program run by the state Department of Transportation, as well as the Dairy Processor and Meat Processor Infrastructure Grant Programs within the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.
