MADISON – Senator Eric Wimberger (R-Oconto), Northeast Wisconsin’s only member on the Joint Committee on Finance, released the following statement after the 2025-26 State Budget passed the Wisconsin State Senate:

“From the start, I’ve advocated for a state budget that funds our infrastructure needs, lowers our tax burden, and delivers real relief for families across Wisconsin. I’m proud to serve on the budget-writing committee, and I’ve worked hard to secure millions of dollars for transformational projects that will benefit all of Northeast Wisconsin.”

ITEMS PASSED IN THE 2025-26 BUDGET CHAMPIONED BY SENATOR WIMBERGER

  • $30 million to fund the Southern Bridge rail crossing project serving Northeast Wisconsin, secured with the help of Representative Benjamin Franklin (R-De Pere)
  • $20 million to support the expansion of the Port of Green Bay, secured with the help of Rep. Franklin
  • New assistant district attorney positions for Northeast Wisconsin, including 7 in Brown County, 2 serving Shawano and Menominee Counties, and 0.5 positions each for Marinette and Oconto Counties
  • Closing Green Bay Correctional Institution by 2029
  • Higher investments in state-issued Dairy Processor Grants, which help processors across Wisconsin modernize their systems and strengthen our title as “America’s Dairyland”
  • $732 million in additional bonding authority for the Environmental Improvement Fund, allowing communities across the state to take out low-interest loans to support local clean water initiatives

STATEWIDE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 2025-26 BUDGET PASSED BY THE SENATE

  • Turned the Governor’s $2.7 billion tax hike into a $1.4 billion tax cut, saving taxpayers $4.1 billion
  • $1.4 billion in additional spendable K-12 revenue for Wisconsin’s schools
  • $1.3 billion for Wisconsin’s roads and bridges, including specific investments in agricultural and rural roads
