MADISON, WI – Just days after announcing her candidacy for Wisconsin’s 5th Senate District, State Representative Robyn Vining is showing residents in her district and across the state that nothing will distract her from standing up for Wisconsin’s families, children, and veterans.

While current (and soon to be former) Senator from the 5th District, Rob Hutton, celebrated the end of last week by introducing a bill attacking doctors, demonizing LGBTQ+ youth, and dividing Wisconsinites – Rep. Robyn Vining began this week by announcing three pieces of legislation aimed at supporting those among us that Republicans in Madison often leave behind.

Pregnancy Protection Act:

  • The Pregnancy Protection Act would put into state law that maternity and newborn care are essential health benefits and insurance plans must cover them.
  • “Maternity care coverage benefits both women and children–improving health outcomes for both! Prenatal and postnatal healthcare can identify and treat complications of pregnancy, such as preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, ectopic pregnancies, life-threatening mental health concerns, infection, and other potentially life-threatening complications for mother and child.” – Rep. Robyn Vining

Universal Changing Tables:

  • This bill, LRB-2107, requires the installation of adult-sized changing stations in certain high-capacity public buildings and creates a tax credit for small businesses to install these stations.
  • “Expanding access to changing stations in Wisconsin will help adults and older children with disabilities, older adults who need assistance, along with parents and other family members, home health care workers, and other care providers. Let’s find common ground for the common good and make Wisconsin safe and accessible for everyBODY.” – Rep. Robyn Vining

Veteran Mental Health Bill:

  • This bill, LRB-1676, provides additional funding and support for the Veterans Outreach and Recovery Program (VORP) to increase access to mental health and substance use disorder prevention services to Wisconsin’s veterans.
  • “Without funds for additional staffing, we are missing out on an important opportunity to help our veterans through these difficult times. Wisconsin’s veterans deserve legislators who advocate for their mental health and well-being, and that is what my colleagues and I are doing by introducing LRB-1676. This is a bipartisan issue, and I look forward to my Republican colleagues joining our effort to help Wisconsin’s veterans.” – Rep. Robyn Vining

The Wisconsin State Senate Democratic Committee’s Communications Director, Will Karcz, released the following statement highlighting Representative Robyn Vining’s commitment to standing up for Wisconsin families:

“The choice voters have in Wisconsin’s 5th Senate District next year is crystal clear. Robyn Vining, a relentless advocate for Wisconsin’s families, children, and underserved communities, or out-of-touch and out-of-date Rob Hutton, or whoever runs in his place. Robyn’s track record of standing ten-toes-down on the people-first values she shares with her district is the reason why she has flipped two Assembly seats from red to blue, and it’s why she will play a massive role in Democrats winning a Senate majority next year.”
