MADISON, WI – In a new Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article, a Republican lawmaker said it is too late for elected officials to provide the funds necessary to support Wisconsin’s Veterans Outreach Recovery Program (VORP) and to save the Veterans Housing and Recovery Program facilities in Chippewa Falls and Green Bay. While we know this is a lie, as there are multiple proposed bills that would do just that, we are not surprised that Republicans in Madison are again making excuses for turning their backs on the brave men and women who volunteered to fight for our country.

Senate Democratic Leader, Dianne Hesselbein, released the following statement on this new reporting and Republican failures to stand up for our veterans:

“Whether it is refusing to support the Veterans Outreach Recovery Program or voting to close the Veterans Housing and Recovery facilities in Chippewa Falls and Green Bay, Republicans are consistently telling Wisconsin veterans that they are not worth our support. While Republican lawmakers continue to play political games with the health and wellbeing of the brave men and women who have served our country, Senate Democrats remain committed to providing our veterans struggling with addiction and homelessness with the support they need. Let’s be clear, we have the votes to get this done for our veterans — the only thing standing in our way are Republicans who refuse to bring this to the floor. ”
