CAMBRIDGE, WI – Senate Democrats made the eighth stop on their Affordable Wisconsin Tour today at Hinchley’s Dairy Farm in Cambridge, Wisconsin. Democratic Leader Dianne Hesselbein, Senator Melissa Ratcliff, and Senator Sarah Keyeski toured the farm with owner Tina Hinchley to hear firsthand how rising costs are affecting Wisconsin farmers and families.
Wisconsin is home to approximately 50,000 family farms, all of which help drive our historic dairy industry. Their livelihoods have been put on the line by national Republicans’ incompetence and the willingness of Madison Republicans to play partisan politics rather than protect farmers.
Democratic Leader Senator Dianne Hesselbein’s statement on the tour of Hinchley’s Dairy Farm:
“I’m leaving today’s tour both proud of the resilience our state’s dairy farmers are showing and even more certain that Senate Republicans are failing them. We continue to see a decline in the number of dairy farmers in Wisconsin, and there has not been an appropriate level of urgency from my Republican colleagues to ease the burdens driving these losses. Senate Democrats are fighting to increase funding for rural infrastructure, streamline farmers’ path to market, and create a sustainable environment for all kinds of family farms.”
Senator Sarah Keyeski made the following comment on the need to support Wisconsin farmers and lower prices:
“While Wisconsin families are faced with continued price-hikes, Republicans in Washington have attacked our state’s crucial agricultural industries, and Republicans in Madison have done nothing to ease the burdens on our farmers. Senator Marklein even made the bold claim that Wisconsin’s farmers “are willing to sacrifice short term profits” for Trump’s senseless tariffs. These sort of out-of-touch statements are a clear demonstration of how our state is being held back by the Republican-controlled legislature. Next year, Democrats will win a Senate majority and get to work lowering costs and standing up for the farmers that drive our economy.”
