MADISON, WI – Yesterday, Wisconsin Senate Republicans held a public hearing to talk about standing up for Wisconsin’s veterans. While Senator Jacque did show up to work for a change – Senate Democrats, our state’s veterans, and their loved ones are wondering if he and his ineffectual Republican friends plan on actually doing anything?
They held a public hearing, “hooray”. But did they allocate the money to keep the Chippewa Falls and Green Bay Veterans Housing facilities open? No.
Did they guarantee they would provide the necessary funding? No.
Did they advance the legislation authored by Senators Smith and Wall that would keep these facilities open? No.
Did they schedule a vote to fund these facilities? No.
Did they take responsibility for sitting back and watching as these facilities close their doors? No.
Did they apologize for turning their backs on Wisconsin Veterans? No.
SSDC Communications Director, Will Karcz, released the following statement on Senate Republicans letting down Wisconsin veterans:
“While we’re happy Senator Jacque and his friends remembered how to get from their cars to the capitol, Wisconsin residents and our veterans expect more. For months, Senate Democrats have been leading the charge to fund the Veterans Housing and Recovery Program facilities in Chippewa Falls and Green Bay while Republicans have done nothing but point fingers and pass blame. Senators Wall, Smith, and the full caucus will continue fighting for Wisconsin veterans and we hope the Republican Senators find it within themselves to do their job.”
