Baldwin: “Judge Chris Taylor is exactly the kind of justice Wisconsin needs on our Supreme Court – fair, impartial, and committed to making sure the law protects the rights and freedoms of everyone”

MADISON, Wis. – U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin today announced her endorsement of Judge Chris Taylor for Wisconsin Supreme Court, emphasizing Taylor’s proven record of fighting for the fundamental rights and freedoms of all Wisconsinites.

“Judge Chris Taylor is exactly the kind of justice Wisconsin needs on our Supreme Court – fair, impartial, and committed to making sure the law protects the rights and freedoms of everyone,” said Senator Tammy Baldwin. “Throughout her career as an attorney, public servant, and judge, Chris Taylor has consistently stood up for Wisconsinites when their fundamental rights have been on the line. She has earned a reputation for ensuring everyone in the courtroom is listened to, respected, and is able to access the justice they deserve. This is a critical opportunity to reinforce a pro-freedom, pro-democracy majority on the court, and I’m proud to support Judge Chris Taylor in this race.”

“I’m deeply honored to have Senator Baldwin’s endorsement and support,” added Judge Chris Taylor. “Like Senator Baldwin, I believe our courts must be fair, independent, and focused on protecting the rights and freedoms of all Wisconsinites – not advancing the agenda of powerful special interests or a partisan political agenda.”

Judge Taylor previously announced endorsements from over 100 judges from across the state, representing centuries of collective experience on the bench, including current Wisconsin Supreme Court Chief Justice Jill Karofsky, Justices Rebecca Dallet and Janet Protasiewicz, and Justice-elect Susan Crawford.

About Judge Chris Taylor: Judge Taylor is a lifelong advocate for justice, fairness, and protecting the rights of all people. As a judge on the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, she brings a deep understanding of the law and a commitment to ensuring everyone gets a fair chance in our judicial system.

Taylor has had a diverse, thirty-year legal career. In 2020, Judge Taylor was appointed by Governor Tony Evers to the Dane County circuit court, and she was elected to that position the following year. In 2003, Judge Taylor was elected by voters in twenty-four counties to the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, where she currently sits.  Her judicial philosophy is people-centered, grounded in making sure individuals get a fair chance in our courts, and that their constitutional rights are protected.  She knows how important it is for our courts to be places where people are heard, respected, and treated equally under the law.  She is a strong advocate for maintaining the independence of the judiciary, which must also serve as a check on the other branches of government.

Judge Taylor has also been a champion for public safety and victims’ rights. From working to improve protections for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, to protecting the safety of our communities, she believes everyone has a right to be safe in their home and in their community.

Prior to joining the bench, Judge Taylor served nearly a decade in the Wisconsin State Assembly, where she used her legal training to protect and enhance people’s rights, strengthen our democracy, and ensure access to affordable health care and fair wages. Before her legislative work, she was an attorney and policy director for Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, where she defended constitutional rights and advocated for improved healthcare access. Judge Taylor began her legal career in private law practice.
