MADISON — The John K. MacIver Institute for Public Policy released the following statement from CEO Annette Olson regarding the state Supreme Court’s ruling in the Evers v. Marklein case:
The liberal Supreme Court’s ruling today guts important legislative oversight over the unelected bureaucrats that already wield too much power in Madison. More power and less accountability for entrenched government special interests — that’s the playbook Gov. Evers and the liberal superlegislators on the Supreme Court have put in motion for Wisconsin. Wisconsin citizens keep losing. It’s Not Working.
Earlier this year, MacIver recommended that lawmakers delay the budget until the Supreme Court ruled in this case. A delay would have enabled the legislature to adjust funding levels to account for the total loss of oversight over state agencies. Instead, agencies got a 15 percent funding increase and the green light to go rogue. Read more about the MacIver Institute’s coverage of the issue here.
