FOND DU LAC, WI – Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney called for sweeping reforms to strengthen victim protections across the state, saying repeated failures inside state agencies show a pattern of incompetence that can no longer be tolerated.
“Enough is enough. We’ve seen statewide failures for victim notice from the parole board and now DHS with Morgan Geyser escaping. It’s time to expand the Office of Crime Victim Services at the Department of Justice and require state agencies to work with the Victim Services to ensure victim rights compliance. No victim should learn from the media that a violent criminal that attacked them is free.”
Toney said Wisconsin cannot allow basic responsibilities like victim notification to fall through the cracks due to mismanagement or bureaucratic breakdowns.
“When agencies fail at something this fundamental, victims pay the price. That is unacceptable,” Toney said. “There are many good people working inside these agencies, but they need clearer guidance, stronger support, and real accountability so these failures stop. As Attorney General, I will work to support victims and fight to end these failures plaguing our system. We will rebuild trust, enforce accountability, and make sure victims are protected every step of the way.”
