President Donald Trump has nominated Assistant U.S. Attorney Rebecca Taibleson for the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.

“Rebecca has learned from some of the BEST and most HIGHLY RESPECTED Legal Minds in the Country, having clerked for United States Supreme Court Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Antonin Scalia,” Trump posted on Truth Social late yesterday to announce the nomination. “Rebecca will make a fantastic Judge who will fearlessly defend the Constitution, and strongly uphold the Rule of Law.”

Taibleson first began working for the U.S. attorney’s office in Milwaukee. She also worked as an assistant to the solicitor general at the U.S. Department of Justice from 2019-22.

She was one of five people candidates U.S. Sens. Tammy Baldwin, D-Madison, and Ron Johnson, R-Oshkosh, forwarded to the White House in mid-July as options to replace Judge Diane Sykes, who will take senior status Oct. 1.

Johnson posted on social media, “Ms. Taibleson is an excellent choice to serve as a judge on the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. I look forward to her swift confirmation.”

The five were identified by the Federal Nominating Commission that Wisconsin’s U.S. senators have used since the 1970s to identify candidates for federal appointments. WisPolitics reported in May that the White House had already begun to interview candidates in what one source described as a “parallel process” to the Federal Nominating Commission’s work. At the time, Taibleson was one of the names getting the most buzz about the vacancy.
