WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) issued the following statements in response to the passage of four critical pieces of legislation this week: the Kayla Hamilton Act, the Protect Children’s Innocence Act, the Power Plant Reliability Act, and the Standardizing Permitting and Expediting Economic Development (SPEED) Act.

On the Kayla Hamilton Act:

“Kayla Hamilton was murdered because the Biden-Harris Administration released a known MS-13 gang member through the unaccompanied alien children (UAC) program without conducting rigorous background checks,” said Congressman Fitzgerald. “Under the Biden-Harris Administration, the UAC system was exploited by criminals and gangs, putting innocent Americans at risk. This legislation requires the Department of Health and Human Services to request criminal records before releasing UACs to a sponsor. It restores accountability and puts public safety first.”

On the Protect Children’s Innocence Act:

“Children should never be subjected to permanent medical procedures they are too young to fully comprehend or consent to,” said Congressman Fitzgerald. “This legislation protects minors by prohibiting doctors from performing genital or bodily mutilation or chemical castration procedures. It ensures that the health and wellbeing of children come first, shielding them from dangerous medical practices pushed by left-wing political activists.”

On the Power Plant Reliability Act:

“Reliable, affordable electricity is essential for families and businesses, and reckless power plant closures in the U.S. put that at risk,” said Congressman Fitzgerald. “This legislation strengthens the ability of states and grid operators to challenge closures that threaten reliability and requires advance notice so the system can plan responsibly. It helps keep our lights on, energy costs down, and our electric grid stable across the country.”

On the Standardizing Permitting and Expediting Economic Development (SPEED) Act:

“For too long, progressive liberal policies and endless lawsuits have blocked critical infrastructure and energy projects, driving up costs and preventing American communities from accessing the energy and resources they need,” said Congressman Fitzgerald. “The SPEED Act reforms NEPA by setting clear timelines, limiting frivolous litigation, and cutting through the bureaucratic obstacles liberals have imposed to stop growth. This legislation will allow us to build the roads, bridges, and energy facilities our country desperately needs, deliver affordable energy, create jobs, and strengthen American energy independence.”
