Sonakshi Giri and her app, RideRight, is the winner of the 2025 Congressional App Challenge for Wisconsin’s First Congressional District. RideRight estimates a user’s blood alcohol content (BAC) using factors such as age, sex, weight, alcohol type and amount, and time since consumption, then indicates whether it is safe to drive based on age- and location-specific laws, and advises how long to wait if it is unsafe. RideRight also includes a designated driver picker, a function that randomly draws a designated driver from a set of entered names.

Background:

·   The Congressional App Challenge inspires students to code, engages Members of Congress, and reaches every corner of America. Since 2013, the members of the U.S. House of Representatives have challenged students in their districts to create and submit original apps for a chance to win the Congressional App Challenge (CAC). Each challenge is district specific.

·   As part of her submission, Sonakshi cited her personal experience with Volition Youth, a program meant to help adolescents refrain from substance use, including learning about the dangers of driving with even low levels of alcohol consumption.
