Recently reelected Superintendent Jill Underly today in a speech told Dem Party activists: “public education is under attack.”
Her comments come after the GOP-run Joint Finance Committee approved adding $336.1 million in new state aid to K-12 education, a fraction of the $3.3 billion that Dem Gov. Tony Evers had proposed.
“It’s under relentless pressure from manufactured culture wars, from chronic underfunding, and now from attempts from the federal government to dismantle programs that support our most vulnerable students,” Underly said, referencing cuts to federal funding under the Trump administration.
Underly, reelected in April, also vowed to stand up for Wisconsin schools.

“If they come for the children, if they come to defund our schools, to dismantle their supports, to turn our classrooms into battlegrounds, they will find me in the way,” Underly said.
