The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire invites campus and community members to a special topping-out ceremony and beam signing, celebrating a major milestone in the construction of the new Science and Health Sciences Building.
The beam will be available for all to sign from 8-10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at the construction site on Garfield Avenue; the topping-out ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. This event marks an exciting moment for our campus and community before the final beam is placed atop the structure. All are welcome to this celebration as we honor the collaboration and support that made this project possible.
Brief remarks will be offered by:
- Dr. Richard Helmers, regional vice president, Mayo Clinic Health System, Northwest Wisconsin
- David Minor, president and CEO, Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce
- Kaitlyn Hevrin, UW-Eau Claire student body president
- Kathy Blumenfeld, secretary, Wisconsin Department of Administration
- Interim Chancellor Michael Carney
Dr. Doug Dunham, interim director for strategic partnerships and program development, looks forward to this moment to celebrate.
“We look forward to this traditional celebration when the final structural beam is placed at the top of the new building, symbolizing the project’s completion of its highest point. This is an opportunity to thank the construction workers and the project stakeholders for their hard work to get to this point and to thank our UWEC neighbors for their patience during this construction process,” Dunham says.
Speaking on behalf of her fellow Blugolds, Hevrin is excited to mark this occasion and acknowledges the incredible opportunities the new facility will offer students.
“The partnerships created through this Science and Health Science Building will allow more Blugold undergraduates the opportunity to participate in innovative research collaborations and gain skills in state-of-the-art laboratory techniques — skills that will benefit them years beyond their time at UW-Eau Claire,” Hevrin says.
