Hi, I’m Representative Cindi Duchow and I represent the 97th Assembly District. The 97th Assembly District includes the Lake Country community near Delafield, Oconomowoc and Wales, and it also recently expanded to the west, picking up Dousman, Eagle, and Palmyra.
I wanted to take some time to talk to you about my bill Assembly Bill 8, which codifies direct primary care agreements into state law. On May 13, 2025, this bill passed unanimously through the Wisconsin State Assembly. I am honored and lucky to see the incredible support for this sensible bill.
To provide a short overview of this bill: Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a healthcare model already being used in Wisconsin as a supplement to traditional healthcare. As you know, healthcare costs are usually billed by the doctor and submitted to the insurance company, who then pays some or all of the cost, leaving the patient responsible for paying the rest. By contrast, DPC operates on a direct payment or subscription basis, where patients pay a monthly or annual fee directly to the primary care provider.
This legislation will ensure that DPC can continue to be used as intended, and deliver high-quality, low-cost care.
Thank you again to all of my colleagues for voting on this bill and let’s hope Governor Evers does the right thing and makes this law!
