Hi, I’m Representative Dave Maxey and I represent the 83 rd Assembly District in Waukesha County. I want to take some time to talk to you today about some of the budget wins we secured for education. As school is right around the corner, I think it is important to share some highlights!

The 2025–27 Wisconsin state budget (Act 15) reflects our commitment to responsible governance and strong support for education. My colleagues and I ensured the continuation of the $325 per-pupil revenue limit adjustment indefinitely, following the Governor’s partial veto and the State Supreme Court’s ruling. We also prioritized special education by increasing reimbursement rates to 42% in 2025-26 and 45% in 2026-27, while boosting high-cost special education aid to cover 50% of eligible costs in 2025-26 and 90% in 2026-27. This delivers real support to local school districts.

My colleagues and I also championed a one-time $30 million increase for school-based mental health grants in 2025-26, raising total funding that year to $40 million—about $50 per student—before returning to the responsible base level of $10 million. These grants help schools partner with local providers to offer counseling, early intervention, and mental health services, addressing student needs while limiting government overreach.

Thank you for your time and have a great rest of the week!
