Hi, I’m Representative Jeff Mursau and I represent the 36 th Assembly District in Northeastern Wisconsin. I wanted to take a bit of your time today to talk to you about June as Dairy Month not only in Wisconsin, but throughout the nation.
Wisconsin is proudly known as “America’s Dairyland.” This month honors the hardworking dairy farmers who contribute to a vital part of the state’s economy, culture, and identity. Wisconsin leads the nation in cheese production and ranks high in overall dairy output, with over 6,000 dairy farms producing billions of pounds of milk each year. Dairy Month is a time for communities to recognize the commitment of farm families and promote the nutritional benefits of dairy products like milk, cheese, and yogurt.
For Wisconsin, Dairy Month is more than just celebration — it’s a reminder of the economic and social importance of agriculture. The dairy industry supports tens of thousands of jobs, from rural farms to processing plants and retail markets. Events such as farm breakfasts, cheese tastings, and educational tours throughout June help connect the public to the people behind the products. With increasing attention on local food sources and sustainable agriculture, Dairy Month also highlights Wisconsin’s leadership in innovation and stewardship within the dairy sector, ensuring that its legacy continues for future generations.
Make sure to thank a farmer or dairy producer if you have the chance. Thank you all and have a wonderful weekend!
