Hello, State Representative Mark Born here. As the Assembly Co-Chair of the Joint Committee on Finance I wanted to take a moment to share a few comments about Governor Evers’ Budget Address this week.
Governor Evers’ budget proposal is more of the same old-liberal wish-list of items that would take our state backwards. His proposal turns a $4 Billion surplus into a $4 Billion deficit in just a few years. His budget includes over $2 Billion in tax increases for an overall spending increase of over 20% and continues to grow government by creating over 1,300 new general fund positions.
For over a decade, Wisconsin Republicans have worked to protect our state’s taxpayers and improve our fiscal condition. We have cut taxes by over $31 billion and have the largest rainy-day fund in state history. We remain committed to return more of your hard-earned tax dollars to you, invest in priorities like roads and keeping our communities safe, all while ensuring we cut wasteful government spending and limit government intrusion in your life.
I look forward to working with my legislative colleagues to continue our responsible budgeting and craft a budget that makes Wisconsin proud.
