Eau Claire, WI — September 23, 2025 – Eric Wilson, a Democrat, a small business owner and mortgage professional with a record of coalition building and technology leadership, today announced his candidacy for Wisconsin State Treasurer.
“Now more than ever, Wisconsin families are struggling. Housing costs are skyrocketing, food prices are rising, healthcare expenses are out of control.” Wilson said. “As your next State Treasurer, I will be a watchdog for the people. I’ll return the millions of dollars of unclaimed property that is sitting in Madison. I’ll help renters become homeowners. I’ll strengthen financial literacy and help families avoid predatory lenders. I’ll safeguard and grow Wisconsin’s trust funds—investing in our schools, libraries, and technologies that move our communities Forward.”
Wilson was born and raised in Western Wisconsin, and studied economics at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He has built a career as a small business owner, IT project manager and a mortgage professional, helping families navigate one of life’s biggest financial decisions: buying a home. He also leads complex technology and budget projects in the private sector, experience he says will help him modernize and safeguard state finances.
As Treasurer, Wilson will focus on four key priorities:
- Building Wealth Through Homeownership – Expand programs that help renters become homeowners, turning monthly rent checks into investments in stability and generational wealth.
- Financial Literacy, Digital Assets & Protection – Launch statewide financial education programs and fight predatory lending practices that trap people in cycles of debt. Wilson will also promote responsible understanding of emerging financial tools such as cryptocurrency and blockchain, so Wisconsinites can navigate new opportunities and risks with confidence.
- Returning What Belongs to the People – Modernize the unclaimed property system so families can reclaim millions of dollars currently sitting in state accounts, with the option to donate unclaimed funds to local causes.
- Investing in Wisconsin’s Future – Guard and responsibly grow more than a billion dollars in trust funds that support schools, libraries, and broadband across the state.
With federal funds drying up and pressure on state budgets, it’s critical to have a Treasurer who will safeguard investments and stretch every dollar. This is the only statewide office currently held by a Republican. Wilson emphasized the urgency of the moment stating, “Together, let’s put Wisconsin’s state treasurer back to work for the people. I ask for your support.”
