MADISON, WI — The Board of Directors for the Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators (WASDA) announces the retirement of Executive Director Jon Bales, who will step down after the 2025-26 school year after 13 years of steadfast leadership, advocacy, and service to Wisconsin’s public school superintendents.

Since assuming the role, Dr. Bales has been a tireless champion for public education and an unwavering supporter of school district leaders across the state. His tenure is defined by a deep commitment to the mission of WASDA, selfless service, and the advancement of educational leadership in Wisconsin. Known for his integrity, wisdom, and calm guidance, Dr. Bales has built lasting relationships and mentored countless administrators, helping shape the next generation of educational leadership, policy, and practice.

Jon has been instrumental in building WASDA into the premier organization it is today. His leadership and the respect he receives statewide have elevated the voice of superintendents and helped promote the value of public education and the role of district leaders in ensuring that value is realized.

Dr. Bales’ contributions leave a lasting legacy—his collaborative spirit and steady hand through times of both opportunity and challenge will be missed by colleagues, statewide leaders, and friends alike.
