Madison, Wis. — The Wisconsin Dairy Products Association (WDPA) celebrates the passage of Assembly Joint Resolution 59, proclaiming June as Dairy Month in Wisconsin. These resolutions recognize the essential role of dairy in Wisconsin’s identity, economy, and communities.
“Wisconsin leads the nation in dairy not just through tradition, but through innovation and excellence across every sector. This resolution honors the farmers, processors, and products that make our dairy industry world-class,” said Amy Winters, Executive Director of WDPA.
“June Dairy Month is an opportunity for us to celebrate something close to the heart—and the table—of just about every family,” said State Sen. André Jacque (R-New Franken), senate author of the resolution. “As the home of America’s Dairyland, Wisconsin doesn’t just produce dairy—we live it, take pride in it, and build communities around it.”
Representative Penterman, lead author of the Assembly resolution, added: “I am proud to author the resolution proclaiming June as Dairy Month in Wisconsin! Our dairy industry is the backbone of rural communities and a pillar of our state’s economy. Having grown up on a dairy farm, I know firsthand the dedication it takes, and I’m
honored to recognize the men and women who make it possible.”
With deep agricultural roots stretching back to the 1840s, Wisconsin’s dairy legacy includes innovations like the Babcock butterfat test that helped revolutionize the industry. Today, the state is home to nearly 6,000 dairy farms and more than 1.28 million cows, contributing $45.6 billion annually to the economy. Wisconsin is the national leader in cheese production and also excels in milk, butter, yogurt, ice cream, whey products, and more.
“Recognizing June as Dairy Month is more than ceremonial—it’s a call to celebrate and support the entire dairy supply chain,” Winters added. “WDPA is proud to partner with our dairy processor members, farmers, and leaders throughout the dairy industry to ensure Wisconsin continues to innovate, expand, and shape the future of dairy excellence. We commend Senator Jacque and Representative Penterman for their leadership in championing this resolution and recognizing the impact of Wisconsin dairy.”
WDPA encourages all Wisconsinites to support local dairy producers, enjoy Wisconsin- made dairy products, and participate in June Dairy Month events happening statewide.
