The Wisconsin Education Association Council, representing public school educators in the state, is welcoming the re-election of Dr. Jill Underly as State Superintendent and the election of Judge Susan Crawford as Supreme Court Justice. In earning the recommendation, educator-members cited Underly’s extensive education experience and Crawford’s strong record of protecting fairness and impartiality. The following statement can be attributed to WEAC President and teacher Peggy Wirtz-Olsen.
“Educators know our students need the best, most committed leadership in Wisconsin in these trying times, and Dr. Underly and Judge Crawford are as dedicated as we are.
“This victory inspires the public school educators who work with students every day to be even more visible and more involved in education policy deliberations to solve staffing shortages and the state funding crisis that forces communities to referendum every year to keep the schoolhouse doors open. The votes show Wisconsin rejected the school voucher lobby in favor of educators, so all students – no exceptions – have the opportunity to learn without limits and unlock their dreams.
“Wisconsin votes can’t be bought, because we put the future of our children over billionaires. Judge Crawford has earned this election win through demonstrating her ability to be impartial, uphold the Constitution and keep our communities and schools safe.”
