MADISON, WI – Today, Representatives Hong, Mayadev, and Tenorio have proudly established the inaugural Asian Caucus in the Wisconsin State Legislature. This historic moment marks a significant step toward ensuring that the voices and experiences of Wisconsin’s growing and diverse Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) populations are represented in policymaking. The caucus will serve as a platform for advocacy, education, and community partnership.
The members of the Wisconsin Legislative Asian Caucus released the following statements:
Rep. Francesca Hong (Chair): “AANHPI communities in Wisconsin have been integral to the fabric of Wisconsin for generations. However, their needs are often not part of policy conversations. This caucus is a step toward making sure these communities are better represented, heard, and included in legislative work. It is about building trusted relationships and fostering belonging.”
Rep. Renuka Mayadev: “As the first South Asian elected to the Wisconsin State Legislature, I am honored to stand with my colleagues to form the Legislative Asian Caucus. As proud children of immigrants, we stand together to uplift the voices of the AANHPI community and share their significant contributions to our great state. Our hope is that this Caucus will foster new connections for advocacy, policymaking, and collaboration.”
Rep. Angelito Tenorio: “As the first Filipino American elected to the Wisconsin State Legislature, I’m proud to be a founding member for the Legislative Asian Caucus. This historic moment is about representation, building power, expanding opportunity, and making sure AANHPI voices are heard in the decisions that shape our state. We’re here to fight for justice, strengthen our communities, and make Wisconsin the best it can be for everyone.”
