Madison, Wis. — The Wisconsin Local Government Climate Coalition (WLGCC) is proud to announce reaching the milestone of 30 member communities, representing 40% of the state’s population. We welcome the City of Verona as the coalition’s 30th member, whose City Council passed a resolution to join in July.

“The City of Verona is looking forward to teaming with WLGCC to help us meet our sustainability goals,” stated Ann Freiwald, Verona’s Assistant City Administrator.

Over the last year, WLGCC has also added six other new member communities committed to advancing local climate action, including Green County, the City of Monroe, the City of Monona, the Village of Belleville, the Village of Shorewood Hills, and Rock County.

“We’re thrilled to welcome these new communities into the coalition,” said Erick Shambarger, President of WLGCC and Director of the City of Milwaukee’s Environmental Collaboration Office. “Each brings a unique perspective and represents that communities across Wisconsin share an interest in real climate action. Together, we are showing what is possible to reduce the risk of climate threats by advancing clean energy, conservation, and nature-based solutions.”

WLGCC was founded in 2020, and provides a coordinated voice for local governments on energy and climate issues, support to advance local climate solutions, and peer-to-peer learning opportunities. To learn more about our work visit https://wlgcc.org/.
