The GOP congressman pushed the lie that Medicaid will be unaffected by the bill.
MADISON, Wis. — Over the weekend, North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis announced that he would not be supporting Trump’s Big Ugly Bill due to federal medicaid cuts that would affect his constituents — and as a result he is retiring. Conversely, WI-03 Rep. Derrick Van Orden has repeatedly, and falsely, claimed that “there are no cuts” to federal Medicaid funding in the bill.
“Derrick Van Orden continues to do what he does best, which is lie to the people of Wisconsin — and this time it’s so he can get massive tax handouts for the ultra-wealthy while he takes health care away from his constituents,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Communications Director Philip Shulman. “ Sen. Thom Tillis chose to honor the promise he, the GOP and Trump made to not take away their constituents’ health care — a promise that Van Orden clearly never took seriously.”
Van Orden’s lies have been put on full display, as last month a report debunked Van Orden’s claims – showing that there would be roughly $1 trillion cuts to federal health care and food security programs.
