MADISON, Wis. — Today, Senate Democratic Leader Dianne Hesselbein and Assembly Democratic Leader Greta Neubauer held a press call responding to new reporting from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that revealed right-wing politician Brad Schimel had attacked the all-woman majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court as too “driven by their emotions” to do their jobs.

Watch the press call and see what Leaders Hesselbein and Neubauer had to say below:

Sen. Dianne Hesselbein:“Brad Schimel is trying to undermine the judgment of the court before a decision is even made. He is relying on outdated stereotypes to suggest that our Supreme Court majority is incapable of doing their job and interpreting state law fairly and impartially. To say that’s shocking is to put it mildly. Brad Schimel’s views of women belong with Wisconsin’s abortion ban—left in 1849 where they belong. It’s no surprise then Brad Schimel is an avid supporter of Wisconsin’s abortion ban that doesn’t include exceptions for rape, incest, or the health of the mother. He’s said there is not a constitutional right to abortion in Wisconsin and even sued in court before Roe was overturned to enforce new restrictions on abortion.”

Rep. Greta Neubauer:“What’s important to remember as these comments from Brad Schimel come to light is not just that Schimel holds outdated views about women and what we’re capable of. It’s that his judgement and choices have real-world implications that make Wisconsin women less safe. Throughout his career, Schimel has shown a shocking disregard for women’s safety and wellbeing in Wisconsin. In his first two years as attorney general, Brad Schimel tested only nine out of over 6,000 untested sexual assault kits in Wisconsin, delaying justice for survivors of sexual assault. Instead of prioritizing testing or asking the Legislature for more funding to process the kits—which we have the authority to authorize—Schimel hunted for a bargain price from out-of-state labs and tied the hands of investigators trying to do right by victims.”
