MADISON, Wis. — With Wisconsinites having endured 100 days of Donald Trump’s reckless chaos, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler released the following statement:

“The first 100 days of Donald Trump 2.0 have been the opposite of a masterclass: a disasterclass. Donald Trump has plagiarized whole chapters from the playbooks of dictators worldwide, but his mad rush to consolidate power has undermined every argument he made for his presidency.  He spends his days weaponizing the federal government to go after his opponents, stocking his cabinet with would-be yes-men oligarchs, and handing out favors to billionaire sycophants while attacking working people in every state. He’s tanked the economy in a poorly-planned trade war, put Americans’ hard-earned benefits at risk, threatened child care and health care, and taken a chainsaw to the civil service. Our prices are up and our freedoms our down.

“Instead of so much as lifting a finger to slow down Trump’s wrecking ball, Donald Trump and congressional Republicans like Derrick Van Orden and Bryan Steil are backing a budget that will gut the health care coverage over a million Wisconsinites rely on, force families to pay thousands more for child care, and raise energy costs—all to pay for tax handouts to billionaires.

“Donald Trump’s first 100 days were marked by turmoil and terror. They’ve ignited a backlash that began in Wisconsin and will spread over this entire country. In Wisconsin, we rose up in defiance by rejecting Trump’s attempted takeover of the Wisconsin Supreme Court on April 1. Now, candidates are coming out of the woodwork to challenge MAGA Republicans in every corner of our state. While Donald Trump tries to sell out working families and seize power for himself, Wisconsin Democrats are making it clear that the true power will always be in the hands of the people—and the people aren’t afraid to use it.”

WISCONSINITES ARE ALREADY HURTING FROM DONALD TRUMP’S RECKLESS, RECESSION-INDUCING AGENDA:

  • Grocery prices have increased the most in over two years, and now 76% of Americans are warning their incomes are not keeping up with inflation.
    • Now with Trump’s tariffs looming, grocery stores say they won’t be able to keep their shelves stocked.
  • 73% of Americans say they are “financially stressed” in Trump’s collapsing economy, and most say the economy and grocery costs are worse than a year ago.
  • More companies filed for bankruptcy in the first three months of this year than in any first quarter since 2010.

DONALD TRUMP AND REPUBLICANS IN CONGRESS LIKE DERRICK VAN ORDEN AND BRYAN STEIL ARE PUSHING A BUDGET BILL THAT WOULD HURT WORKING FAMILIES IN ORDER TO HAND OUT TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF TAX CUTS TO BILLIONAIRES:

  • Trump and congressional Republicans’ budget will:
    • Threaten affordable health care coverage for the over 1.1 million Wisconsinites who rely on Medicaid.
    • Slash the hard-earned Social Security benefits of over 1.3 million Wisconsinites by defunding the independent Social Security board.
    • Eliminate Head Start, which will cost working families an extra $12,000 a year for child care and rip away kids’ health care. Over 14,800 kids in Wisconsin rely on Head Start.
    • Gut affordable housing and make energy more expensive for millions of working families.

AS A RESULT OF HIS DANGEROUS AGENDA, DONALD TRUMP IS FACING THE LOWEST 100-DAY MARK APPROVAL RATINGS OF ANY PRESIDENT IN THE LAST 80 YEARS:

  • Donald Trump’s job performance has tanked to 39%—lower than previous presidents at this point in their term.
  • 3 in 4 Americans believe that the economy is faltering, and the majority believe Donald Trump is to blame.
  • On top of that, 53% of Americans say their financial situation is getting worse, marking the first time since 2001 that a majority has expressed pessimism.
  • It’s no wonder that Americans overwhelmingly disapprove of Trump’s handling of the economy, or why most Americans have lost confidence in Trump’s ability to make sound economic decisions.
