[Madison, Wisconsin]: As communities continue to combat the Trump administration’s violent escalation across multiple fronts, the Unlock the Box Campaign and Look2Justice will embark on a first-of-its-kind bus tour and grassroots mobilization effort across the country.
WISDOM, MOSES, and FREE join Unlock the Box Campaign and Look2Justice for the “Journey to Justice Bus Tour” on Sunday, October 12th, 2025 from 12PM-3PM CST at Madison Christian Community, 7118 Old Sauk Rd. Madison, WI 53717 aiming to highlight the horrors and widespread use of solitary confinement in immigration detention and federal, state, and local prisons, jails, and juvenile detention centers.

There will also be a replica cell solitary confinement exhibition. Hear directly from people most impacted and state legislators as they share how we can push forward legislation to end torture in Wisconsin prisons. Learn about the unique harms solitary confinement causes for women and families—and discover ways you can join the movement for a more just society. Register in advance here.
Building on the legacy of civil and human rights advocates who have leveraged the power of traveling advocacy campaigns, the “Journey to Justice” bus tour will cover 17 cities beginning in Seattle. Advocates and systems-impacted grassroots organizers will spend eight weeks traveling in the mobile advocacy hub.
The “Journey to Justice” Bus tour will coincide with a book tour for “Ending Isolation: The Case Against Solitary Confinement,” co-written by Christopher Blackwell, a currently incarcerated journalist and founder of tour partner Look2Justice.
“Solitary confinement steals lives, voices, and futures. In Ending Isolation, we expose that reality, and now this tour brings the book to life. Even from behind bars, I’ve seen how stories can connect us, move us, and mobilize real change. This journey is about building that power together.”–Christopher Blackwell, Incarcerated Journalist, Author of Ending Isolation, and Founder of Look2Justice
“Solitary confinement is state-sanctioned torture, and it’s happening every day behind closed doors. This is not the time for silence—it’s the time to disrupt, to expose, and to organize. Journey to Justice is not just a tour, it’s a wake-up call. We’re taking art and activism on the road to confront injustice head-on, ignite public outrage, and demand an end to this inhumane practice. We’re not just telling the truth—we’re building power to end solitary confinement for good. –Jessica Sandoval, National Director of the Unlock the Box Campaign
Through interdisciplinary panels, toolkit discussions, movement mixtape parties, immersive theater experiences, film screenings, and human libraries, the tour will spark joy, build connections, and empower attendees with the information and skills to build communities capable of high-impact change. The hub will leverage VR and immersive digital experiences to illustrate the harsh realities of solitary confinement. Each stop will also feature a model solitary cell and a photo exhibit, “Windows into Solitary,” further humanizing the statistics.
