MADISON, WI – Young Democrats of Wisconsin Chair Jake Williams released the following statement in response to Governor Tony Evers announcing his retirement:

“Upon hearing Governor Tony Evers’s decision not to seek re-election, we would like to extend our deepest thanks for his years of service and leadership. When Governor Evers took office in 2019, he helped guide Wisconsin out of the Walker era with integrity, compassion, and a commitment to fairness.

Throughout his time as Governor, he championed fair maps to ensure that every Wisconsinite’s vote counted, and he consistently stood up for access to health care, LGBTQ+ rights, strong public education, and the everyday needs of working families. Governor Evers’s long and dignified career in public service has left a lasting mark on our state and we are grateful.

As we look to the future, we are ready to fight to keep the Governor’s office blue. Through a competitive Democratic primary, we look forward to choosing a candidate who will build on this legacy and continue moving Wisconsin forward.”
