BROOKFIELD, WI – Amy Zimmerman, a program manager and community enthusiast, today announced her candidacy for Wisconsin State Assembly District 13, which includes Elm Grove and parts of Brookfield and Wauwatosa. The seat is open following Representative Robyn Vining’s recent announcement to run for state Senate (link: https://www.robynforwi.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/RBV_launch_press_release.jpg).

“At my core, I believe every Wisconsinite should be able to live their best life,” said Zimmerman, “and we should structure our government programs to support that.”

Zimmerman brings 15+ years managing private-sector projects and co-owns Brown Dog Gadgets. She serves on Brookfield’s Parks & Recreation Commission and worked on the 2024 Wirth Park Tot Lot renovation, creating the city’s first inclusive playground.

Campaign Priorities

School Funding: With 241 public school budget referendums in Wisconsin last year, Zimmerman supports increasing special education reimbursement and reforming revenue limits.

Working Families: “State-supported childcare has tremendous return on investment, estimated as $4-7 for each $1 spent,” she said, advocating for reinstating Child Care Counts.

Healthcare: Zimmerman supports expanding Medicaid and reproductive healthcare access. “Today’s healthcare crisis is a moral failure that will haunt our society for generations.”

Small Business: “We need to level the playing field and make Wisconsin friendly to small businesses and their workers.”

Zimmerman is active with many community groups, including Girl Scouts, UU Church West, Marquette University Alumni Association, and PMI-Milwaukee. She lives in Brookfield with her husband, two sons, and Springer Spaniel.

“By maintaining Democratic representation for the 13th district, we can move forward legislation needed to create lasting change in Wisconsin,” Zimmerman concluded.
