MADISON, Wis. — Congressman Tom Tiffany, who scrubbed his website days before announcing his run for governor, spent much of an interview that aired this past weekend dodging questions about his record of right-wing extremism and the endorsement of Donald Trump for his loyalty to the MAGA agenda.

“Congressman Tom Tiffany’s campaign consultants can dress him up like a paper doll in overalls, flannel shirts, bolo ties, or three quarter zips and he can dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge when questioned,” commented A Better Wisconsin Together spokesperson Mike Browne. “But it’s the same old MAGA extremist Congressman Tom Tiffany behind the costumes and the obfuscations.”

Tiffany’s election denialism was a topic of discussion in the interview. He was asked if he regretted his vote against certifying the ballots cast by millions of Americans in Arizona and Pennsylvania, and his willingness to also toss out the votes of Wisconsinites, if not for the session being interrupted by the violent and deadly insurrection on January 6. In response, Tiffany launched into a meandering non-answer about how he was focused on the future, as he bemoaned the policies of the previous administration that left office two years ago. Asked again about the vote, he refused to answer the question.

Congressman Tiffany has been praised and endorsed by Trump as “always by my side,” and has voted for MAGA cuts to health care and food assistance to deliver more tax giveaways for billionaires, and supported foreign wars and trade wars that have hiked costs on gas, groceries, and more.

Yet when asked if he would welcome Donald Trump to Wisconsin to campaign on his behalf, Tiffany ducked for cover, suggesting (or hoping) Donald Trump has “his hands full” and may not have the time to visit.

Browne concluded, “Congressman Tiffany is a longtime politician with lots of experience evading questions and a willingness to say whatever he needs to try to win an election. That’s why it’s so important to pay attention to his actions, and on that score he can’t dodge his MAGA extremism.”
