A Better Wisconsin Together: TBT: Tom Tiffany and his vote for the Foxconn boondoggle

As State Senator Tom Tiffany Voted for a Massive Corporate Subsidy, Hiking Electric Rates for Consumers, Weakening Clean Water Protection, and Condemning Family Homes and Farmland

MADISON, Wis. — Some politicians are willing to say anything to try to win an election, regardless of what they’ve done or how they’ve voted. There’s ample evidence that Congressman Tom Tiffany, the MAGA Republican running for Wisconsin governor, is one of them. And there’s no better example of it than Tiffany’s vote for the Foxconn boondoggle according to A Better Wisconsin Together spokesperson Mike Browne.

Browne commented, “Congressman Tom Tiffany doesn’t just have a credibility gap, he has a credibility chasm. He voted to give away the farm, literally, and much more, with his support for the Foxconn boondoggle.” 

The controversial, and ultimately failed, Foxconn project Tiffany voted for as a member of the state senate was:

• The largest proposed state subsidy to a foreign corporation in U.S. history, with a cost to state and local government estimated at an astronomical $4.5 billion; 
• Estimated to hike electric utility costs for consumers by $117 million and more for sewage and water service;
• Responsible for the destruction of numerous family homes and buying up of farmland for the development; and
• Would have weakened state environmental protections for clean water and more to pave the way for the development.

Browne noted the specifics of what Tiffany the legislator voted for in the Foxconn bill is completely at odds with the rhetoric of Tiffany the candidate when it comes to big tech data centers.

He concluded, “This guy, Congressman Tiffany, continues to show he’ll say anything to try to win an election. Unfortunately for him, it’s easy for Wisconsin voters to continue to see that what he says isn’t what he’s done.”
