A new ad says U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden, R-Prairie du Chien, voted to “protect pesticide manufacturers.”
The six-figure digital ad campaign, from Unrig Our Economy, will run across the state’s 3rd CD. Unrig Our Economy is a national group based out of Delaware that describes its mission as working to make the economy work for working people.
Van Orden is seeking his third congressional term and faces a rematch with Dem challenger Rebecca Cooke. Van Orden narrowly beat Cooke in 2024.
The 30-second ad opens with images of a grocery store, a thermostat and a doctor’s office.

“Wisconsin families are feeling the strain across the board. Not only have we been struggling to put food on the table, now we’re worried about getting sick from it too,” the narrator says.
The ad goes on to show news headlines about SNAP cuts and food quality reports. The ad cited Van Orden’s support of HR 7567, the Farm, Food and National Security Act of 2026, which passed the House in April, which would limit state control over pesticide regulations and company liability through failure-to-warn claims.
“Congressman Derrick Van Orden voted to protect pesticide manufacturers even when they make us sick,” the narrator says.
The ad ends by urging viewers to tell Van Orden that “we deserve affordable and safe food” and to support HR 9807. The bill, introduced last month, would amend federal law regarding state-level failure-to-warn claims from pesticide companies.
