A new ad calls on U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden, R-Prairie du Chien, to oppose a national abortion ban.

Van Orden is seeking a third term in Congress and faces Dem challenger Rebecca Cooke, who he bested for the seat in 2024. The 15-second spot, running on digital platforms throughout the 3rd CD, is part of a buy from Free & Just, a reproductive healthcare advocacy group.

The six-figure buy includes other congressional districts across the U.S. A spokesperson for the group didn’t immediately respond to a request for more details on the 3rd CD buy.

The ad begins with a woman, identified as Megan from Taylor, pictured with her three children. The woman says she had to “leave Wisconsin for care” following “a devastating pregnancy diagnosis.”

The ad continues showing a headline from 2023 news article when Van Orden urged Wisconsin lawmakers to consider a ban on abortions after 15 weeks, with exceptions for rape and incest.

“Healthcare decisions belong to Wisconsin families, not lawmakers like Derrick Van Orden. We know what’s right for us, he doesn’t,” Megan says.

The ad ends with the words “Tell Rep. Van Orden to oppose a national abortion ban” appearing on screen along with the phone number for the congressman’s office.
