MAPLE BLUFF, WI — Jon Aleckson’s campaign for State Assembly 50 (Southwestern Dane County and Green County, WI) held a well-attended fundraising event this week at Maple Bluff Country Club, drawing more than 50 supporters for an evening featuring U.S. Senator Ron Johnson, who joined remotely, and Wisconsin State Senator Steve Nass.

Johnson: State Races Are the Foundation of a “Trickle Up” Strategy

Senator Johnson argued that strong down-ballot candidates like Aleckson are essential not only to holding the state Legislature, but to lay the groundwork for statewide wins in future elections, including the race for governor. Johnson devoted much of his remarks to the failures of government spending, pointing to Wisconsin’s high per-pupil education costs paired with disappointing outcomes as a case study in inefficient government. More broadly, he called for reducing the size and cost of government at every level and lamented the lack of private-sector experience among many current policymakers.

The senator also shared a personal story about his late friend and colleague, Senator Lindsey Graham, recalling how Graham urged him to be assertive in his committee leadership even in areas where the two disagreed.

Turning to questions from attendees, Johnson addressed how young people should be prepared for an AI-driven economy. He argued that the education system has done students a disservice by pushing a four-year college degree as the default path for everyone, noting that American students collectively carry $1.7 trillion in debt. Instead, he called for greater emphasis on trade skills, apprenticeships, and educational paths matched to individual students’ abilities and interests.

Johnson voiced strong support for Aleckson’s candidacy and encouraging attendees to stay engaged through Election Day.

Nass Adds His Voice in Support

State Senator Steve Nass also addressed the crowd, adding his endorsement of Aleckson’s campaign and underscoring the importance of electing candidates who will bring practical, results-oriented leadership to the Assembly. Aleckson Lays Out His Case to Voters

Aleckson reviewed his proposals to make housing more affordable. As part of this “Restore Wisconsin” initiatives, he will propose legislation to double the Homestead Tax Credit providing up to an additional $1,000 immediately to targeted seniors on a fixed
income. He also pledged to begin a campaign to change the state constitution to allow a property tax freeze for targeted seniors.
