American Federation of Teachers Local 212, the faculty and staff union at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), has endorsed Mitchell Berman for Congress in Wisconsin’s first congressional district.
“Mitchell Berman is one of us,” declares Local 212 President Lisa Conley. “As a nurse, activist, former public employee and current union member who is not beholden to those wielding power of high position or deep pockets, he will be a strong, steady, logical, and people-centered voice for all in Washington.
Berman worked for 10 years as a Registered Nurse in a VA hospital, tending to wounded and aging military veterans and is currently an ER nurse at a hospital in Franklin.
Like many MATC students, Berman cobbled together three jobs to put himself through college and is the first in his family to graduate.
“Mitchell Berman has deep roots in his community and is the perfect candidate to defeat Bryan Steil, whose allegiance is not to the people in his district but rather to Donald Trump and his billionaires-first agenda,” explains Steve Shea, Chair of Local 212’s Committee on Political Education. “While Berman treats the sick and injured,” Shea added, “Steil voted to cut 17 million people off of their healthcare insurance.”
