Madison, WI — Americans for Prosperity-Wisconsin (AFP-WI) thanks Republican leadership for announcing they intend to vote to repeal Governor Tony Evers’ 400-year property tax increase. Today, Speaker Robin Vos announced his house will pass a repeal of Gov. Evers 400-year veto. This comes on the heels of Governor Evers acknowledging property taxes in Wisconsin are surging under his administration. Governor Evers finally realized the impact and controversy surrounding his unprecedented “400-year veto” after months of grassroots pressure and principled leadership from Wisconsin Republicans who refuse to let this overreach stand.
AFP-WI Legislative Director Jerry Ponio added:
“Governor Evers is scrambling to save face after his outrageous 400-year veto backfired. Affordability is the #1 issue on every Wisconsinite’s mind and under Governor Evers, Wisconsin is moving in the wrong direction. He didn’t back down because he wanted to—he’s folding under relentless grassroots pressure from AFP-WI and the principled leadership of Wisconsin Republicans.
“Credit to Republican leadership in the legislature for putting politics aside and giving Governor Evers a chance to right his wrong. AFP-WI remains committed to advancing policies that promote accountability, fiscal responsibility, and opportunity for all Wisconsinites. This moment is a testament to the power of grassroots advocacy and principled leadership.”
AFP-WI volunteers have been on the ground for months, knocking on doors statewide, engaging neighbors, and raising awareness about the implications of the 400-year veto. These efforts were amplified through social media and community outreach, ensuring Wisconsinites understood what was at stake.
