Madison, WI — Americans for Prosperity-Wisconsin (AFP-WI) blasted Gov. Tony Evers’ leadership in its response to his State of the State address Tuesday.

AFP-WI State Director Megan Novak issued the following statement:

“For eight years, Wisconsin has been barreling down the wrong path under Governor Evers. His decisions led our state to a 400-year property tax hike and $2 billion in utility rate hikes.

“And without the Republican Legislature stopping Governor Evers’ numerous attempts to raise taxes, dismantle education freedom and destroy our economy, Wisconsin businesses and families would be even worse off.

“The governor may have tried to rewrite his tenure as a success story tonight, but the truth is that Wisconsinites are struggling more than they were before he took office. As the Evers era ends, AFP will continue informing Wisconsinites on the failure of progressive policies so we can begin the process of restoring prosperity in the Badger State.”

Some low notes of the Evers years include:

  • Gov. Evers vetoed several middle-class tax cuts at a time when cost of living is top of mind.
  • Gov. Evers single handedly instituted a 400-year property tax hike by vetoing the punctuation in a school funding increase.
  • Gov. Evers proclaimed this past year as the “Year of the Kid,” yet Wisconsin’s public education system is failing our children while he has repeatedly opposed school choice.
  • Gov. Evers has overseen $2 billion in utility rate hikes since 2019, limiting economic mobility and leaving taxpayers with less disposable income to cover other essentials.
  • Gov. Evers proclaims himself a friend to farmers, but he instituted massive livestock fee hikes on our agricultural workers, including a 1,700% fee increase just last fall.
