NEENAH, Wis. – Today, Neenah School Board Member Lauri Asbury announced her bid for the 53rd Assembly District. Asbury has served on the Neenah School Board since 2016 and has been an active member of several community organizations, including: the Neenah Menasha Emergency Society, the Winnebago Area Literacy Council, Samaritan, Rotary, and the League of Women Voters. She released the following statement:

“As a long-time Neenah resident, community volunteer, and proud parent of two Neenah graduates, I am excited to announce my candidacy for State Assembly. We need an active voice in Madison, a representative that listens to the needs of constituents, and actively supports our local businesses, education community, and working families. Serving this community is something I take pride in and I am excited to be a responsive voice for this district in the legislature.

“I am running because we need a change in our representation in Madison. We deserve someone who listens and responds to local needs rather than party leaders. Rising costs are hurting working families, our public schools are being starved for vital resources, childcare is unaffordable, our natural resources aren’t being protected, and there are few local solutions coming from the legislature. I am running to bring my school board service and policy experience to Madison to advocate for legislation that will directly support our communities, lower costs, properly fund our public schools, support business and manufacturing, and protect workers’ rights.

“It’s time for a positive change. I’m proud to call Neenah and the Fox Valley home and I want to be a strong voice for our communities in Madison. I look forward to continuing conversations with residents all over this district, hearing their priorities, and creating a shared vision to strengthen our community and Wisconsin.”
