MADISON, WI — Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin announced her endorsement of Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett’s re-election campaign.

“Sheriff Barrett has built a safer and fairer community by investing in smart, compassionate public safety. His work to expand mental health crisis response, launch addiction treatment programs, and strengthen re-entry programs is what real public safety looks like,” said Senator Tammy Baldwin. “When the pressure came from the Trump Administration to enter into immigration enforcement agreements that would have undermined trust in local law enforcement, he said no. That’s the kind of bold leadership that we need at this moment. Sheriff Barrett has earned the trust of Dane County, and he has earned my full support. I’m proud to endorse Kalvin and I hope all of Dane County will join me in voting for him this fall.”

“I’m deeply honored to have Senator Baldwin’s endorsement,” added Sheriff Kalvin Barrett. “She has spent her career fighting for Wisconsin families, and her support means the world to me. We share the same belief that safe and strong communities are built on trust, fairness, and leaders who show up. That’s what I’ve done every day as your Sheriff.”

Under Sheriff Barrett’s leadership, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office has used an approach to public safety that has been rooted in trust, accountability, and tangible results. His administration expanded co-response teams that pair deputies with mental health professionals to safely serve residents in crisis, strengthened re-entry programs that reduce recidivism, established a Medication Assisted Treatment program in the jail to address opioid addiction, and rejected immigration enforcement agreements that eroded trust and made communities less safe.

A proud former Wisconsin Badger, educator, husband, and father, Barrett has dedicated his life to community service. Sheriff Barrett lives in Sun Prairie with his wife and two daughters.

The Democratic Primary Election for Dane County Sheriff will be held on August 11, 2026, and the General Election will be November 3rd, 2026. Visit KalvinBarrett.com to learn more about Sheriff Barrett and his campaign.
