**Eau Claire, WI** — Dr. Xong Xiong, executive director of Wisconsin-based Hmong Organizing & Mobilizing for Empowerment, announced the group’s endorsement of Emily Berge, candidate for Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District.
“Election Day is when everyone is truly equal because my vote has the same value as that of a billionaire’s,” said Dr. Xiong. “When our lawmakers and the people running for office accept corporate dollars to fund their campaigns, they are telling voters that their voices matter less than those of billionaires. We’ve seen what happens when lawmakers create and uphold laws that keep us poor while making billionaires richer. We endorse Berge because she has been our ally in Wisconsin’s Third and she will continue to be, as demonstrated by her principles and actions on the campaign trail.”
As a leader in the Chippewa Valley for the past eight years, Emily has built a community that welcomes and empowers people of all backgrounds. She will do the same in Congress, fighting for Medicare for All, an economy that gives everyone the opportunity to thrive, and getting big money out of politics.
“Over the last eight years in public service, I have worked to recruit and support Hmong community members to serve in elected office and on local boards and commissions,” said Emily Berge. “Building power is not about speaking for a community. It is about listening, creating opportunities for leadership, and ensuring people have a seat at the table where decisions are made. Wisconsinites are being ignored while the ultra-wealthy whisper in elected officials’ and candidates’ ears. We deserve a representative who will prioritize the people who live in the district. I am proud of my work bringing underrepresented voices to the table, and I promise to continue this work as your congresswoman.”
