RACINE, WI – The Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers District Council of Wisconsin (BAC), which represents and trains skilled craftworkers, including bricklayers, stone and marble masons, cement masons, cleaners, and caulkers, has endorsed ER nurse Mitchell Berman to represent Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District.
In the endorsement letter, WI BAC Political Director Andy Jorgensen said, “When we choose to stand behind a candidate, we do so with the collective voice of working families who value hard work, integrity, and community. This endorsement is not given lightly. It is a reflection of your demonstrated commitment to organized labor and your willingness to listen to the issues that directly impact on our trade.”
“The men and women of the Bricklayers build the homes, schools, and hospitals Southeast Wisconsinites depend on, and I’m proud to have them in my corner,” said Mitchell Berman. “A good career in the skilled trades shouldn’t require a four-year degree or a mountain of student loan debt. In Congress, I’ll fight to expand apprenticeships, protect the right to organize, and make sure our state’s workers are the ones building our collective future.”
The BAC joins a growing coalition of labor unions backing Berman, including the United Steelworkers District 7, Wisconsin State AFL-CIO, United Auto Workers, the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), the Milwaukee Area Service and Hospitality Workers Union (MASH), and the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 420.
Mitchell Berman will work to grow apprenticeship programs so more Wisconsinites can earn while they learn. He’ll also fight to pass the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act and stop employers from retaliating against workers for organizing, keep jobs in Wisconsin by steering federal contracts and tax incentives toward companies that invest and hire locally, and stop subsidizing corporations that ship jobs overseas. The endorsement comes as WI-01 has emerged as one of the tightest House races in the country. All three public polls of the general election show the race within a single point. With two weeks until Election Day, the polling makes clear this race is a toss-up, and working families in Southeast Wisconsin are lining up behind Mitchell Berman.
