Janesville, WI — In today’s WCLO debate, Bryan Steil tried to run from his record cutting Wisconsinites’ health care and skyrocketing prescription costs to protect his corporate donors. The facts disagree.
Steil voted to strip health coverage from hundreds of thousands of Wisconsinites, and has taken hundreds of thousands of Big Pharma’s money while voting against lower drug prices:
- Steil voted for $1 trillion in Medicaid cuts. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services estimates 276,175 Wisconsinites will lose health coverage over the next decade as a result.
- Steil has taken nearly $220,000 from the pharmaceutical industry, and has voted repeatedly to protect Big Pharma’s profits at Wisconsin families’ expense:
- In 2022, Steil voted against capping insulin prices at $35 per month for seniors on Medicare and against allowing Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices.
- In 2021, Steil voted against allowing the federal government to negotiate prices for certain drugs covered under Medicare.
- In 2019, Steil voted against allowing the federal government to negotiate drug prices directly for Wisconsinites on Medicare and against cracking down on Big Pharma monopolies.
