Janesville, WI — In today’s WLCO debate, Bryan Steil once again tried to lie about Mitchell to cover up his own record handing out tax breaks to billionaires and his corporate donors while making life more expensive for Wisconsinites.
FACT CHECK: Mitchell has a plan to cut taxes for middle and working class Wisconsin families:
- Putting Wisconsin families first:
- Berman supports sweeping tax cuts that directly benefit working- and middle-class Wisconsin families, including: expanding the Child Tax Credit for every working family, expanding the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, and strengthening down payment assistance for first-time homebuyers.
- Ending tax breaks for billionaires and corporations:
- Berman supports ending tax breaks for data centers, stopping subsidizing corporations that ship jobs overseas, and making sure tax incentives go to companies that invest and hire locally.
- Steil has voted to hand $70 billion in special tax breaks to data center companies and big tech interests.
- Steil is personally invested in the data center buildout.
- Refuses corporate PAC cash:
- Berman has rejected all corporate PAC donations.
- Steil relies heavily on corporate PACs and has a clear record of bowing to his corporate donors.
Meanwhile, Steil has increased costs for Wisconsin families:
- Steil voted for about $1 trillion in Medicaid cuts that will strip health coverage from over 270,000 Wisconsinites to pay for tax cuts for billionaires.
- Steil voted eight times to keep the tariffs in place, even as they are raising prices and hurting Wisconsin businesses.
- The tariffs have hammered Wisconsin farmers, with retaliatory tariffs cutting into soybean exports and hitting Wisconsin crops with duties as high as 117%.
- Steil voted every single time to keep the Iran War going, forcing families to foot the bill for higher prices at the pump.
