Kenosha, WI – May 13, 2026 – The Seminole Tribe’s newly announced hotel and convention center project in Rockford raises serious questions about the viability of the promised Kenosha development and appears to render the Kenosha environmental assessment obsolete.
“The Kenosha proposal was presented as a unique economic opportunity for southeastern Wisconsin. However, the Rockford development includes many of the same features and target markets, creating significant doubt about whether the Kenosha project can deliver the jobs, tourism, and revenue projections used to justify the application” said Lorri Pickens, spokesperson for Citizens Against Expanded Gambling.
This new development also calls into question the accuracy and relevance of the existing environmental assessment, which did not evaluate the impact of a competing Seminole-backed project in nearby Rockford.
Given these major changes, federal, state, and local officials should require a new and comprehensive review before any further action is taken on the Kenosha proposal.
