NORTHERN WI. The Clark for Wisconsin Campaign is honored to announce the endorsement of former Wisconsin Representative David Obey. Obey served as a member of the United States House of Representatives for Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District from 1969 to 2011.
Obey holds the distinction of being the second longest-serving member of the United States House of Representatives from the state of Wisconsin, and is the longest serving Democratic representative from Wisconsin. Obey grew up in Wausau, and served as chairman of the powerful House Appropriations Committee from 2007 to 2011.
In a statement, Rep. Obey said: “In Fred Clark’s career as a state legislator, as a community leader, and as a candidate he has been dedicated to standing up for all of the people he represents.” Obey went on to add, “Fred has the qualifications, the intelligence, the sense of fairness and balance, the courage and the open mindedness to tackle tough issues. He has proven to work with all sides and engage people on controversial issues and build common ground. For those reasons I am excited to endorse Fred Clark.”
In a critical year for our country, the 2026 election carries special significance and Rep. Obey’s endorsement in Wisconsin’s 7th CD carries special weight.
“David Obey is a legend in Northern Wisconsin and I’m deeply honored by his endorsement,” said Clark. “As I travel the 7th Congressional District, I am often reminded of David by both Democratic and Republican voters who respected his consistency, his toughness, and how hard he worked for everyone in Northern Wisconsin”, said Clark. “Our whole team is honored to have earned Representative Obey’s support, and we are motivated to build a new future for our American democracy while honoring his legacy.”
The Clark for Wisconsin Team will be announcing other endorsements in the weeks leading up to the Aug. 11 primary.
