As President Donald Trump visits Northern Wisconsin for a closed event to hear about how his policies have affected farmers, former rural legislator and congressional candidate Fred Clark offered this welcome video sharing thoughts he regularly hears in rural Wisconsin counties.
In the video, Clark encouraged the president to address prices for such necessities as diesel gas, fertilizer and food, which have skyrocketed due to tariffs and the war in Iran.
In advance of the president’s June 5 visit to Chippewa Falls, Clark asked: “What do you say to the farmers who will be driven out of business and into bankruptcy because of your policies?”
He hopes to see Trump present a plan to help mid-size and small farm owners and revitalize rural towns. Clark wants businesses and residents, including upcoming generations, to remain and prosper.
“There are far too many empty downtowns in rural Wisconsin and many smaller farms are disappearing,” said Clark. “Republican and Democratic elected leaders have to work together to keep our farmers in business and help our rural communities stay alive.”
“So the president will come and then a few hours later he’ll leave,” said Clark. “Meanwhile the people who farm here at home will be contending with weaker markets, higher costs and a fuel crisis all brought on by bad choices made in Washington.”
“Wisconsin farmers need more than just pats on the back and bailouts – they need a trade policy that allows them to succeed.”
